Gospel Record Co. gospel discography (1958-74)
Gospel (Gospel Record Co., not to be confused with the Gospel Recording Co. label from New York City) was a subsidiary label of Savoy from Newark, NJ, as were the Acorn, King Solomon, Sharp, Regent and World Wide labels.
- There were two gospel series (singles); the 1000/1100 series (#1000-1134, 1958-1974) and the 5800 series (#5800-5816, 1960-1963).
- LP’s were issued in the 3000/3100 series (#3000-3105; 1958-c. 1974).
- It seems that Gospel 5804 was by mistake issued as Savoy 5804. Savoy has no 5800 series otherwise.
- Gospel LP 3087 is credited to ‘Rev. M. Rountree and his Gospel Troubadors’ on the labels, the cover just mentions the Gospel Troubadors.
- Gospel LP 3103 is a reissue of Sharp LP 2000, LP 3090 seems not to have been released.
- Early Savoy catalogues often list the first song (or another) on an album as the album title; the actual LP title was neglected or an album title was given where there was none. I have corrected most of these mistakes but it may lead to some inconsistencies with other information found on the internet and elsewhere.
